| The first series of exercises are mostly independent from each other and
are designed to instill skills in basic wet laboratory and molecular biology techniques.
The emphasis includes practice in the presentation of results. No formal reports are
required, but great attention should be applied to keeping detailed and accurate notes in
a formal notebook and presenting the results from each session
in a formal manner. Data should be tabulated, graphs and figures should be completely
labeled, as if the results were being submitted for publication. All work must be typed.
At the beginning of each lab (except the first) the instructor will check your notebook,
and ask you to submit last session's results (just the results). These efforts will be
returned with commentary. ^up |
By the time you start the second series of exercises you
will have skill in manipulations in the lab and in collecting and presenting results. This
series consists of four sets of sessions where the results of one session are dependent on
the success of the previous session. You will present formal reports on each of these four
sets of sessions after all the experiments are completed. Due dates will be assigned.
The flow through each of these two series of exercises and the relationship
among sessons within a sets is given below.
